As seasons change so do the chances of seeing various animals in Hluhluwe Game Reserve. The best times to vist Hluhluwe Game Reserve or Umfolozi Game Reserve would be just before our rainy season. The reason for this is that the Lion, Cheetah, Wild Dog and Leopardd sightings are better just before the rains, the cats or predators are more often seeing on safari at the remaining water sources and this makes hunts more prominant.
This time of the year also coincides with most species expecting and as the rains come most newborns are witnessed. With the rains one can get to see more Elephants in the Umfolozi Section than the Hluhluwe Game Reserve side however with the water sources up to normal heights it becomes more difficult to spot Wild Dog’s.
The dry season is from mid June to end October and the rainy season begins in November to end January, please note that in the tropics that this does not mean rain for the entire day and night. Most rains would last for a maximum of 2 to 3 hours and then the skies would open up as if nothing ever happened.
Safari sightings become a bit more difficult after the rains for most small cars as the height restrictions of the grass will start to become a factor in spotting animals in the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve.
The umfolozi Game Reserve in Summer offers a larger area to travel in as this also coincides with our national holidays and the Hluhluwe Game Reserve side then becomes very active with day safari goers.
