Heritage Tours & Safaris is a proud provider of hluhluwe game reserve accommodation at Hilltop camp and many of the KNZ provincial parks,
bush camps and lodges .
We have been in the safari business for some time now and love it.
Hilltop Resort, is situated on the summit of a forested hill and offers fine views 540m overlooking the Zululand valleys and Black & White Umfolozi rivers .
The hluhluwe game reserve area in rocky and rugged and lots of trees. Plenty animal here.
The Hluhluwe Hilltop camp accommodation is quite special in many ways .. The 1st one is Hilltop Camp in hluhluwe game reserve the northern side of the park. There are 3 ways to stay at this resort .
Rondavels , which are small one room huts made of stone /mud/ thatch , mostly they are made with whatever is available for building that is close to building sites . They almost, always have thatch roofing .
They are the least expensive to stay in at around R 700 a night .The bathrooms and cooking is communal.
You can of cores cook on a fire right outside your door . But there is a great restaurant and fantastic bar .
The bar overlooks the valley and river so seeing Ellis and other animals is very high probability. I had nice cold beer there the other day at sunset ,and really it was outstanding sightings I just love this place.
The next way to stay at Hluhluwe hilltop is in a chalet , there are self cater and non self ..
These are also based on traditional building style , with stone walls with thatch ,and all wood intr.
Very cozy and also quite cool in the summer, surprisingly, they have overhead fans and mozi nets .
The fans seem to keep the blood suck annoying critters away . They all have great decks and fire pits .
There are 4 bed with 2 bedrooms chalets and 2 bed 1 bedroom ,with pullout couch for one extra sleeping spot for a child or ….
The have great showers/HOT and all the normal things ,the self- cater units have great gas stoves and gas fridge / freezers .
They are serviced daily by friendly staff . Towels and crockery are provided ,bed linen as well so no worries there ..
BUT BRING FIRE WOOD. This is a reserve so there is no going for fire wood walks to gather. Its best to bring wood and bring a lot , as you will be out by the fire a lot I hope 🙂
There is a shop and fuel diesel /unleaded only . Plus you can buy food stuffs like bread milk , canned , and frozen meat , but remember this is the bush in Africa so there is not always things to buy ..
BRING EVERYTHING YOU NEED … Bring some really good bug spray ,its much nicer around the fire that way ,,sorry but fact, some time we need modern tec …
OK lets see where was I ,, there is a pool , nice pool fantastic to cool off in the heat of Zululand summer time life saver . Plus play ground for kids and walking trails around the resort inside the fence .
Game drive routes with maps to follow ,,but but the roads are not always great for cars .If they have a lot of rain the road will be bad ..If you have a suv and no how to handle it great you will be fine. But to get to all the spots you will need suv ,sometimes 4x4 and diff ground clearance ..I would say, the best way to do this is just go on a guided tour ,there are number reasons for this .
The guides most of them are from the area and are in the parks everyday ,they no where the animals are most of the time ,it could take you hrs of driving around and see nothing ?
The resort is fenced but always keep lookout ,this is a wild place not a Zoo .. Have torch at night .
You can also buy gifts at curio shop and take day safaris .
So that’s just one of our hluhluwe game reserve accommodation spots to come experience it you won't be sorry you did ...
